We are at the threshold of the Fourth Industrial Revolution!

This requires, in particular,

development of self-organization competencies in digitalized industrial work environments.

The main driver of Industry 4.0 is advancing digitalization. It especially confronts employees in small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) with changing demands. These enterprises frequently do not have the specific qualification offerings needed nor the resources to develop these themselves. Accordingly, they face challenges especially at the production-related shop-floor level. In the future, employees there will work less as "machine users", but instead taking on the roles of experienced experts, decision-makers, and coordinators.

Our team has come together, under the direction of the European University of Applied Sciences (EUFH), to predict future competency and qualification requirements in a digitalized, industrial work environment. Our goal especially is to enable employees from SMEs to independently fulfill the changing requirements for self-organization and machine coordination.

Our three-year research project is supported by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) and the European Social Fund (ESF).

Industry 4.0

A central element of the German federal government's high tech/innovation strategy, which describes computerization of the classic industries.

Digitalization

Transfer of information from an analog to a digital language form and transfer to computers of tasks that were previously done by people.
